Jeff Kaplan hinted that Overwatch 2 will not be released before BlizzCon 2020

After BlizzCon 2019, it might seem that Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 will be released soon: both games were given to try by journalists and both were announced for the current generation of consoles.

But Blizzard had to upset fans. Initially, the developers said that Diablo IV will be released “soon” even by the standards of the company.

And later, Jeff Kaplan in a conversation with VG247 confirmed that Overwatch 2 players will be presented at BlizzCon 2020.

The release date of the game is not a big secret that we want to hide from the players. We just don’t know ourselves.

What is important to us at Blizzard is that it is played so that the players say: “Yes, she is ready, the time has come.” I have no date. This is definitely not this year, I can tell you this with confidence.

If this helps you, I think we will talk about Overwatch 2 again at BlizzCon next year.

Kaplan also added that in Overwatch 2 there will be many new characters, but not 21 as in the first part. In the current version of the game, at least two new characters will appear before the release of Overwatch 2.

It also became known earlier that Overwatch and Overwatch 2 will have one client and engine, but players will get access to different amounts of content. Characters and cards will intersect, but not new modes, including story modes.

Some players decided that Blizzard specifically announced their games too soon to appease fans after the scandal surrounding the Hong Kong protests. However, Jason Schreier noted that both games were planned to be presented during 2019.
