Tencent becomes Funcom Conan Exiles largest shareholder

The Chinese media giant has acquired a 29 percent stake in the company.

Tencent bought back a stake previously owned by Norwegian KGJ Capital AS. The Chinese campaign is now considered Funcom’s largest shareholder, responsible for Conan Exiles and the publisher of Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden.

Funcom called Tencent a responsible investor and noted that in the future it intends to work closely with a Chinese company.

Tencent is considered one of the largest media giants in the world and owns a stake in many gaming companies like Grinding Gear Games, Epic Games, Activision, Ubisoft and Paradox. Also, the Chinese conglomerate is wholly owned by Riot Games, the authors of League of Legends.

Now in development, the Norwegian Funcom has several projects , including an online game in the open world on Dune. The company collaborates with Legendary Entertainment, which, together with director Denis Villeneuve, is engaged in the future adaptation of the Frank Herbert universe.
