For the first time, sales of games in the “digital” ahead of retail copies.
Sony shared the results for the fiscal quarter ended June 30. To date, the company has shipped more than 100 million PlayStation 4 consoles, and in three months PS4 shipments amounted to 3.2 million.
The console broke the 100 millionth barrier faster than any other home gaming system, ahead of the PlayStation 2 and Wii.
In the second quarter of 2019, the share of games purchased in the “figure” was 53% – for the first time this figure exceeded 50%. A year earlier, digital sales accounted for 43% of copies.
The number of PlayStation Plus subscribers is now 36.2 million (an increase of 2.3 million). Also for the first fiscal quarter, the company sold 42.9 million copies of games.
Fiscal 2019 should be one of Sony’s most successful operating revenues. So far, the most favorable in the entire history of the company was the 2018th.
Sony’s cumulative sales declined slightly compared to the first fiscal quarter of 2018. Sales of consoles also fell, due to the decline of the current generation.
