The American industry may surpass the Chinese in connection with the increase in the console audience and the suspension of certification of games in the PRC.
Analytical firm Newzoo published a report on the state of the global video game market in 2019, in which it provided a forecast for the development of the game industry until 2022.
According to experts, in 2019, world income from video games will amount to 152.1 billion dollars – 9.6% more than in 2018. Almost half of global revenue will come from China and the United States.
It is expected that the American game industry will bring about $ 36.9 billion and in 2019 will be the largest in the world – for the first time since 2015. According to Newzoo, this will affect the growth of the console audience in the country, as well as the suspension of the certification of games in China.
According to analysts, the fastest growing gaming market is South America, where revenue by the end of the year will grow by 11.1% and reach $ 5.6 billion. Most of this amount will come from the sale of mobile titles, which in 2019 will provide 45% of the world’s revenue from games – or 68.5 billion dollars in monetary terms.
PC games, according to Newzoo, in 2019 will bring only 23% of world revenue, or 35.7 billion dollars in monetary terms. Experts point out a slow growth in the PC market – an increase of 4% is expected compared to 2018, and by 2022 the growth rate will be about 5.4%.
However, at the same time, experts emphasize the innovative status of the PC industry, since popular game genres like MOBA and the “royal battle” originated on this platform.
Newzoo also predicts that the global video game industry will continue to grow and by 2022 its revenues will increase by almost 30% compared to 2019, from 152.1 billion to 196 billion dollars.
