In North Carolina, alligators are frozen in ice and hibernating

With animals, everything is in order – this is their tactic of survival in the cold.

In the park Shallotte River Swamp Park alligators froze along with the swamp in which they live. From the side it looks like the reptiles have died: they do not move and do not react to anything, and only faces with noses are visible on the surface.

In fact, alligators hibernated, leaving part of the head on the surface to breathe. In the “brumacii” state, animals can stay for several months: at this time the reptile’s metabolism slows down and they do not need food. In addition, they lower body temperature and save energy in order to maintain it.

When the ice thaws, alligators wake up and begin to live a normal life.
