The company probably does not intend to share revenue with intermediaries.
On the report for investors, it became known that in early 2018, Disney will launch its own streaming service with sports content based on the ESPN network, and in 2019 an online movie theater with its movies and TV shows.
According to the company’s CEO, the decision is connected with the desire of Disney to contact its audience directly. Potentially, this means that the company will be able not only to publish content created for film and television in its online cinema, but also to shoot a new one – especially for the network.
The potential of this direction is huge, as Disney owns the Marvel catalog, Star Wars and many other famous franchises.
Recently, the struggle in the online cinema market has escalated. On August 7, Netflix bought Mark Millar’s comic book publisher to start making films and TV shows on the company’s graphic novels, including Kick-Ass, Wanted, and Kingsman.
