On the night of November 10-11, Microsoft announced that two games from tinyBuild will immediately appear in the Xbox Game Pass service from the day they were released – the new “Mor” and the Secret Neighbor. Previously, Microsoft could try Hello Neighbor and Graveyard Keeper with a Microsoft subscription, so for the two companies this was a continuation of the collaboration.
When approached tinyBuild co-founder Luc Bertis with questions about the Game Pass, he was forced to refrain from exact numbers. According to him, because of the NDA, he cannot name either the ratio of subscription revenue and regular sales, nor talk about the payment mechanism.
The main reason for publishers to try Game Pass as a distribution model is Microsoft promotion (including on X018). The Xbox consoles now have a separate tab for the service, where new items are highlighted, as well as applications for iOS and Android with thematic selections and the ability to be installed remotely.
We have several titles in the Game Pass, and we are pleased with both the sales and the promotion that the platform offers. Xbox is a very strong partner for tinyBuild, and we will continue to use the opportunities that the company offers.Advertisement
According to Bertis, the Game Pass may not be suitable for every game, but the tinyBuild projects have not received anything from him except benefits.
We think that partnership agreements like the Game Pass can be viewed differently, and you should think about what is best for your game. In our experience, most of the games that made it into the Game Pass brought much more revenue to the Xbox [than without it].
In the coming months, Game Pass owners will receive at the start other indie games, including Mutant Year Zero and Void Bastards from one of the creators of BioShock.
Subscription costs 599 rubles per month and gives access to a constantly updated library of games. Currently, Microsoft is holding a campaign that gives new users the first month of a Game Pass for 30 rubles. Some games eventually leave the service – for example, Fallout 4 will be removed from it soon.
